They told us a week ago we were getting some here just east of Charlotte, NC. They lied. So I too, am drinking bourbon. But because I’m mad. What kind of bourbon are you taking part in?

Bulleit, what about you?
They said we would get 4-7 in Indianapolis, we are probably going to get close to 7 before it’s supposed to stop tomorrow morning.

I get it, give something a name and people are more likely to remember it, makes it easier to convey the information.

... where's the storm? Unless you're somewhere eastern seaboard and southern. Then it makes sense.

Makers. Never had Bulleit. A buddy of mine has Blanton's. He swears I need to try it too.

Yeah, I don’t see much value. And if there is value, that should fall to the NWS or something, not just be a thing the Weather Channel made up.

I am in Indianapolis, it hasn’t been too bad here. At least from what I’ve seen, from my house cause I haven’t gone outside all day.

Nope, ready for it to end. Had to work today and will be working again tomorrow. Almost got hit four times today by folks sliding around in it.
Originally they said it would all end by 4am tomorrow. That would’ve been nice because the roads would’ve been cleared before work. Now they say it may continue till 1pm.
I look forward to my on-call week ending Wednesday so I can have a drink.

I got off at 2 this morning and won’t be going back until 5 Monday evening . I got lucky and can enjoy all of it from home.
One of my neighbors has a newish ( 2014?) GMC Sierra that has to street p ark , I have been waiting to hear it get hit all day, so far people seem to be driving carefully though, at least through our neighborhood.
Being on call is the worst, I used to hate it.

I didn’t see any pileups, but definitely several off the road. I got a little slidey myself on I-465, southeast side. Spooked me pretty good.

We got 14 inches here today, that’s a ton of snow for the lower midwest (St Louis).
Also this may be the old man in me, but I hate that they started naming winter storms like they’re damn hurricanes!

LongbowMkII blackcar14, now with less blackcar
snowing in the Midwest during January is hardly an extraordinary weather event.
The midwest gets hotter, colder, icier, windier, drier, wetter, more humid, along with tornados, pop-up severe thunderstorms with damaging lightning, wind, hail, and flash-flooding rain, and generally more widely unpredictable than most places, but it never qualifies for news wider than local or regional. A few snow flakes in coastal areas or major cities, makes national news, with stories about massive pileups, and runs on supplies in stores.
There are places that are more extreme, but not that VARY between extremes as much as mid-continent, mid-latitude areas that are not regulated by nearby large bodies of water to stabilize temperatures and humidity levels. The biggest mid-l atitude, mid-continental areas are central north america, and central asia. Not equatorial or tropical , but not arctic or antarctic, either... and ~ 1000-miles or more from the nearest oceanic body of water . Entirely at the mercy of varying jet stream air masses.
There are places that are:
W etter, but don’t get as dry, and drier, but don’t get nearly as much water. Destructive f looding in the spring may give way to a crop-killing, livestock-endangering, prairie-fire risking dro ught in the summer and fall. This year, fall was so unusually wet that some of the crops were inaccessible to harvest due to mud.
Hotter, but don’t get as cold, and colder but don’t get nearly as hot. Heat stroke in 100+ degree summers with 90% humidity where sweating can’t cool you , and some winters it gets below -20 degrees Fahrenheit, where frost-bite and freezing to death is a real concern for exposure.
Don’t change from 80 degrees with pop-up thunderstorms, to below freezing and snowing in less than a week. We can sometimes have 3-4 seasons represented inside the same month.
8 inches of snow in my location today... didn’t even close the roads. 0.8 inches of snow in other parts of the country close businesses, let alone roads.
Plus it is hovering between 28 and 32 degrees today and tomorrow , so depending on sun and wind, melting and re-freezing causes icing and black ice.
But don’t even start about:
“AWD is not necessary, and just a crutch”, and
“ SUVs are bad and SUV drivers should feel bad ” junk,
or just shrugging off legitimate concerns about range anxiety and getting stranded and exposed when the batteries in an EV die in a rural area, many miles from a charger, in the middle of winter, or summer.

Metro DC here, the initial fore cast was 3-6 inches, then it dropped to 1 - 3 inches, then went back to 3-6. As it stands we have 4 + and its not supposed to stop until later tonight.

Yes, that is one thing I don’t miss about the Pacific Northwest, not exactly forest fires, but the fire alerts for most of the summer. “Don’t BBQ, no fire pits, don’t even go outside with glasses on just in case the sun reflects off them and set 17 blocks of dead grass on fire.”

This place has all sorts of interesting foods, and in the fall it sounds like a great family outing. My first time: the maintenance man opened up for me ( they had decided to stay closed this weekend due to the weather).
